Mary Jane was born and raised with her 4 siblings in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended Seton Hill and planned to become a nun but decided instead to pursue another vocation. Through a blind date, she met and married Charles Emmett. They started their family while making a home at first, in Buffalo, NY, then Ligonier, PA and finally settled in Mountainside, NJ and raised 4 children.
Mary Jane and Emmett were active members of Our Lady of Lourdes church parish and participated in Cursillo, couples counseling, bible study and various prayer groups. She enjoyed living in Norfolk, Va., near Patricia, for these last several years.
Mary Jane, a strong woman of God, was a bible teacher and a lover of the Word of God. Later in life, she discovered St. Antoninus, a Charismatic Catholic church in Newark with an ethnically diverse parish, where she became an active member and Eucharistic minister. As a member of many churches, she had a passionate ministry visiting the sick at Overlook and University Hospitals in New Jersey; and she continued this passion when she moved to Norfolk.
As a mother, she encouraged her children to love God, think for themselves, follow their dreams and not judge others. She loved spending time in nature, especially camping and time at the beach.
In place of flowers, you may make a donation to St Joseph Social Service Center, 118 Division Street, Elizabeth, NJ 07201. This was a ministry close to Mary Jane's heart where she often volunteered alongside Sister Jacinta.
